Kazakhstan Mining Overview
Mining is a fundamental sector in Kazakhstan, which is distinguished by the diversity of its mineral resources.
Many foreign enterprises are engaged in the exploration and exploitation of mineral deposits and in providing the necessary material and technical support for mining processes.
Shallow depth allows for inexpensive open-pit mining.
Mineral resources are ideally positioned for integrated use, facilitating the
development of metallurgy, chemical manufacturing, and machinery.
Kazakhstan ranks among the leading raw material countries in the world,
positioned 13th globally among 70 mining countries in terms of total volume of solid mineral extraction.
Kazakhstan plays a significant role in the world market of chromium,
copper, uranium, iron, manganese, coal, titanium, ferroalloys, and steel.
Kazakhstan’s mining sector includes significant investments from
Western companies such as Chevron (U.S.), as well as firms from Australia, Canada, and the EU.
These international concessions enhance stability and attract more investors, reducing jurisdictional risk.
Further, Agreements between Kaz Resources and Kazakh government partners are entered into under
the jurisdiction of the IAC (International Arbitration Center), administered by UK judges and enforceable
internationally under the New York Convention 1958.
